Distributed Belief Revision versus Distributed Truth Maintenance

چکیده
This paper outlines a distinction between Distributed Truth Maintenance and Distributed Belief Revision. The latter has a more complex conceptualization than the former and it needs the evaluation of special features as the relationship between the Informant’s reliability and the Information’s credibility. We point out some criteria to judge the qualities of a Distributed Belief Revision strategy from a global perspective. However, the performances of such a strategy can be estimated only on a simulation basis. The general framework for Assumption-Based Distributed Belief Revision that we present has been tested on our specific “CLUEDO” multi-agent simulation testbed. The model has been continuously improved during many cicles till the results presented in this paper.

Solving Con icting Beliefs with a Distributed Belief Revision Approach
The ability to solve connicting beliefs is crucial for multi-agent systems where the information is dynamic, incomplete and distributed over a group of autonomous agents. The proposed distributed belief revision approach consists of a distributed truth maintenance system and a set of autonomous belief revision methodologies. The agents have partial views and, frequently, hold disparate beliefs ...
متن کاملDistributed Belief Revision
The ability to respond sensibly to changing and conflicting beliefs is an integral part of intelligent agency. To this end, we outline the design and implementation of a Distributed Assumption-based Truth Maintenance System (DATMS) appropriate for controlling cooperative problem solving in a dynamic real world multi-agent community. Our DATMS works on the principle of local coherence which mean...
متن کاملStructure-Driven Algorithms for Truth Maintenance
This paper studies truth-maintenance and belief revision tasks on singly-connected structures for the purpose of understanding how structural features could be exploited in such tasks. We present distributed algorithms and show that, in the JTMS framework, both belief revision and consistency maintenance are linear in the size of the knowledgebase on singly connected structures. However, the AT...

The ability to solve conflicting beliefs is crucial for multiagent systems where the information is dynamic, incomplete, and distributed over a group of individuals. The individual agents have partial views and, frequently, hold disparate beliefs regarding shared information. The nature of these conflicts is dynamic and requires adequate methodologies for dynamic conflict resolution. The propos...
